Spinal Adjustment Techniques
Chiropractic is based on the understanding that good health depends upon a normally functioning nervous system. Many disease processes begin with the body's inability to adapt to its environment; however, we do not treat disease - we remove the spinal stresses from the nervous system which permits the body's natural healing potential to function at its best. The Doctors of the Goldsboro Spine Center address specific problems by locating and adjusting the neuro-musculoskeletal areas of the body that are functioning improperly.

The primary focus of chiropractic is the detection, reduction and correction of spinal misalignments and nervous system dysfunction. Regular chiropractic care is necessary to correct spinal malfunctions to help maintain sound health and fitness because your spine is under constant strain. Improper lifting techniques, poor posture, accidents, falls and bumps, and other causes, can contribute to spinal strain, thus making chiropractic care a needed aspect of your health.

Chiropractors are the only doctors who specialize in treating subluxations.

The term subluxation means minor misalignment however the affects on the human body as a result of a subluxation on the upper cervical spine can be far from minor. In the simplest of terms, a subluxation is when one or more vertebrae (bones in your spine) move out of line and create pressure on spinal nerves. Spinal nerves are the nerves that come out from the vertebrae in your spine. Pressure on the nerves can cause interference with the signals traveling through them - leading to numerous health related problem. Chiropractors commonly recognize five categories of components present in the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC).

Spinal Kinesiopathology - is where the bones of the spine become stuck, don't move enough, or move too much.
Neuropathophysiology (abnormal nervous system function) - nerves can become overexcited and hyperactive. Due to the way the spine is engineered, abnormal spinal function can irritate, pinch, rub or choke the delicate tissue of the spinal cord and nerve roots.
Myopathology (Abnormal Muscle Function) - is when over-developed muscles on one side of the spine cause individual vertebrae to rotate and lose proper function. When muscle function declines muscles that support the spine respond in different ways, the spine can weaken or even atrophy.
Histiopathology (Abnormal soft tissue function) - inflammation and swelling due to injured disc accompany the accumulation of blood and lymph - causing a rise in temperature.
Pathophysiology - when there is a trauma to a joint, one of the ways your body responds is the stabilization of the area by forming new bone! With time, calcium deposits build up, eventually as abnormal bony growth. This arthritic 'splinting' of bones is nature's attempt to stabilize the injured joint. Due to the intricacies of the nervous system, more research is being conducted in the areas of hormonal involvement, aging, immune system response, even genetic consequences. The Vertebral Subluxation Complex may be one of the most regular yet overlooked source of health problems.

Chiropractor are trained in identifying and treating vertebral subluxations. This is done through a series of chiropractic adjustments specifically designed to correct the vertebral subluxations in your spine. Chiropractors are the only professionals who undergo years of training to be the experts at correcting subluxations.
Spinal Rehabilitation
Spinal rehabilitation is indicated for patients who have developed physical de-conditioning of their muscular systems. Rehabilitation is successful by improving muscular endurance, balance, flexibility, coordination and strength through specific therapeutic activities. The goal of rehabilitation is to minimize pain and maximize function.

A variety of therapies are also used at the Goldsboro Spine Center to speed the healing process and improve patient comfort. These include: electrical muscle stimulation, heat or ice, muscle relaxation techniques, spinal traction, and trigger point therapy. The physicians of the Spine Center custom design Swiss ball activities, Synergy System exercises, gait training, bending and lifting stations, balance and proprioception re-training to strengthen, balance and rehab the spine.
Neuromuscular re-education is used in order to improve movement, balance, coordination, kinesthetic sense, posture and proprioception for sitting and/or standing activities. Tandem exercises, along with a postural challenges, may be utilized to evaluate stability. Therapeutic exercise training is used with the purpose of increasing and maintaining strength, endurance, range of motion and flexibility. These activities incorporate one parameter of strength, endurance, range of motion, or flexibility.

Percussion Therapy can be used to increase the functional performance and range of motion and decrease inflammation and muscle spasm in the involved areas.

3-D vibration acceleration training creates instability in the human body, which in turn, with each vibration, the body is forced to perform reflexive muscle actions, multiple times per second. The muscle contractions work in multiple dimensions which optimally "loads" the patient's frame while minimizing high impact, high load, and high stress factors. Its benefits range from immediate improvement in blood circulation, to a variety of other measurable outcomes: such as increased muscle strength and flexibility, improved range of motion, decreased cellulite, increased bone mineral density, reduces pain and soreness and faster recovery.

Cervical traction is performed to traction open the individual vertebral and extremity segments, decrease spasm, and increase mobility, circulation and nutrition to the involved joints.
These therapies can be used in combination with chiropractic adjustments to provide the most effective treatment.
Health and Wellness Consults
When you have achieved the goals we have set to resolve your complaints, the Doctors at the Goldsboro Spine Center will offer you the opportunity to continue to improve your health by entering into the Wellness Care or Maintenance Care. sEMG
sEMG is an acronym for Surface Electromyography. This is a device which measures the amount of electrical activity your muscles release when they are contracting, otherwise known as muscle tension. This is very useful in a spinal exam because muscles have the tendency to “brace or guard” as your bodies natural defense mechanism to pain and injury.

sEMG evaluates the relative levels of electrical activity associated with the Subluxations. The dynamic sEMG provides a valuable differentiation between chronic and acute problems and the static sEMG confirms palpatory findings of myospasm.

sEMG is a non-invasive procedure that does not cause irritation or pain. The examination requires only the placement of small probes against the skin and only takes a few minutes to complete. It is safe to use on infants, children, seniors, and pregnant women. By using this latest technology we can receive the most accurate information on the condition of your body to better help your needs.
X-Rays
Goldsboro Spine Center has on site X-ray facilities.

If further imaging is needed, for example MRI or CT scan, the Doctors can order them for you.
